Signing a document

Before you start signing a document, it is recommended to first view the document and position the signature box on the document. You can position the signature box while opening the document in the viewer. Close the document after positioning the signature box.

If you skip this step, the your signature box will be positioned in the bottom right corner of the document.

Pressing the blue penpoint behind the document gives you the possibility to sign a document. Signing the document consists of three steps:

  1. Choosing the signing methode

  2. Choosing the identity with which to sign

  3. Entering your pincode

Choosing the signing method

There are three means with which a document can be signed.

  1. Smart card and card reader

  2. Smart-ID: mobile signing

1. Using smart card and card reader

This is the free method for signing. Signing documents via smart card and card reader requires the installation of the Trust1Connector. If the connector is not installed the pop-up screen will guide you to the settings menu where you can download the connector. Press the go to settings button and read here how to install the connector.

If you have the connector installed the card reader and truststore signing methods will be available. If you already have a card reader with smart card inserted attached to your device, your eID will be detected automatically.

If this is not the case, connect a card reader and insert your eID. SimpleSign will automatically detect the eID, but if you want to speed up the process, press on the grey field that says "no identities found....". This will trigger a refresh action to detect connected card readers and eID's.

2. Using the Truststore

The Trustore enables you to use all PKCS#11 type smart cards with SimpleSign. BUT to be able to use the Truststore you must have the driver of you card installed. This driver is the governmental software of you eID. You just need to download this software and install it. There is no further action required with this driver.

When using the Truststore you still need to have a card reader and you eID connected to your device. Please read the section on Truststore for more detailed information.

3. Smart-ID (subscription needed)

Smart-ID is a mobile identification app. It will allow you to sign documents with just scanning the QR-code with your mobile. The end-user must have a valid Smart-ID account.

Choosing Identity

After pressing the blue penpoint the a pop-up will appear which give you the possibility to choose the identity with which you want to sign.

The default ID that is shown is the last used ID if this ID is available. If you have multiple ID’s connected/available, press on the grey rectangle in the pop-up window to open a dropdown list of all the available ID’s.

You can change the ID you want to use by hoovering over the rectangle. The dropdown list will close and the chosen ID will be visible in the Sign Document window. Press the press Sign Document at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Entering your pincode

If you are using a reader with pin-pad use the pin-pad to enter your pincode. If your reader does not have a pin-pad a pop-up will appear in which you can enter your pincode.

After entering the correct pincode, the document is signed. The application transfers the document from your inbox to the signed tab.

You have successfully signed the document!
