Windows 10 updates (Issue)

This page will describe what to do when the Trust1Connector does not work anymore after a Windows 10 update. After a Windows 10 Update (Family, Home or Professional).

Introduction

On Windows 10, especially after an update, it is possible that the service is not running anymore. The steps described below helps you in making the Trust1Connector healthy after a Windows update.

Additionally for Windows 10 Home, you must be sure to have a card reader connected for the first time using the service in a web applications. This is caused by a known issue in Windows 10 Home.

1. Verify your system is running Windows 10

Please verify if the system is running Windows 10. This information can be retrieved via the about page in the Windows settings.

First click on the start menu to open up the settings window

Start menu

When the setting window appears you can continue to the System page.

Windows settings overview

When on the System page you can view the About page and scroll down to view the Windows specifications.

Windows specifications

If your windows specification displays Windows 10 Home you also need to follow step 3

2. Execute the Windows 10 support script

When you are running Windows 10 and experiencing issues where the Trust1Connector is not working properly you can execute the following script to update the Trust1Connector settings.

This script will make sure the Trust1Connector will start up correctly when the computer has booted up.

To execute the script you need to download it and double click it to start.

After executing a reboot is required to complete the process.

Trust1Connector support script

This script needs elevated rights (administrator rights) to be executed.

User Account Control to execute the script with Administrator rights (elevated rights)

The script will display various dialog boxes with information. These boxes hold information about what has been added/updated

Info box which states the service will be run at each boot procedure

The following messages can appear:

  • Trust1Connector_Service script enabled to run at startup

  • Trust1Connector_Agent script enabled to run at startup

  • Trust1Connector_Service startup path added to startup programs

  • Trust1Connector_Agent startup path added to startup programs

  • The service GCL_Service is already started

  • {{Date}} StartService GCL_Service -1 Running OK

  • Please restart the computer to complete the setup

At the end of the script it will request a manual reboot. This is required to save the settings and to validate if this has fixed your issues.

For the Trust1Connector to work properly you need 2 processes running

Also check if the Trust1Connector is added as a startup program, and is enabled. The required startup programs can be seen below;

If you see multiple entries of the same but the Trust1Connector is still not working this could indicate in a corrupt/bloated Windows registry.

Make sure that the following registry keys are existent and that they are active in the task manager;

3. Windows 10 Home

When you're running a Windows 10 home edition and are experiencing issues regarding the reader not being found, please disconnect the reader completely and connect it again.

This step is needed because in Windows 10 Home edition the way Windows enables/detects card-readers is different from other windows 10 versions.
